All appointments must be cancelled at latest 24 hours before the appointment. Appointments can not be cancelled on sunday´s or national holiday´s.

A compulsory cancellation fee 50% of the booked appointment(s) will be automatically applied to all appointments not cancelled within the 24 hour deadline.

Information and Advice about Hair Extensions

We use 100% real human hair from Marvelous Hair Extensions that have a range of 25 different colours. After your appointment to put in a new set of tape extensions, we recommend that you book your next appointment to raise/lift your extensions. This should be done after 5 to 7 weeks and no longer than 8 weeks after your previous appointment. If you would like to colour your extensions, the guarantee with Marvelous Hair Extensions is void. If you would like to colour your extensions at Escape Hairdressing, there will be an additional cost for this service. If you would like to have a full haircut to cut your own hair, the prices for a full haircut will apply depending on the level of stylist who fulfils the service.

Before your appointment

•  Please come to all hair extensions appointments with freshly washed hair. Do not use any conditioner or leave-in products before your re-fitting appointment. If one comes to an appointment without doing this, an extra service fee will apply.

Washing Hair

•  Wait 24 hours before washing your hair after your hair extensions appointment. Always brush your hair before washing it.

•  Tape attachments should always lay in the direction that hair falls naturally. We recommend not leaning back too much and never bending forward whilst washing your hair (like leaning over a bathtub to wash your hair). This can cause your extensions to slip out due to the natural direction of fall for the hair having the centre of gravity shift to the wrong place.

•  The hair extensions are not in contact with the scalp and therefore will not be dirty in the same way that real hair becomes dirty. For this reason the extensions do not need to be washed like your own hair. Instead, we recommend wetting the hair with water and starting with a conditioner in the lengths. Allow the conditioner to work whilst using shampoo on the scalp. We recommend washing the hair twice with shampoo and finishing with a conditioner or a hair mask from the ears down to the ends of the hair. Use only flat palms of the hands and not the finger tips to massage the scalp and extensions’ attachments.

•  When drying one’s hair with a towel, we recommend only pressing and squeezing out the excess water with a towel and not wrapping the hair up on the head in the towel.

•  If you have any knots or tangles after washing, it is very important to carefully brush out the hair as the tape attachments can easily slide out when they are wet and pulled on whilst brushing. We recommend brushing the hair by starting in the ends and working your way upwards whilst holding your hair firmly above to be as gentle as possible.

Hair Products

•  In order to maintain the quality of the hair extensions for at least one year and for the guarantee to be valid, one has to use hair products that give a lot of moisture and care for use at home. We recommend using 4 types of products; shampoo, conditioner, hair mask and a leave-in detangling product. (These products have to be registered on your customer profile at Escape Hairdressing for the guarantee to be valid).

•  A special brush is needed to maintain the quality of the extensions and as to not damage the tape attachments. When the wrong type of brush is used, one can experience that the brush’s bristles getting stuck at the roots, in between the scalp and the tape attachments. If this is the case it is easy for the tape extension to get ripped out along with your own hair. Therefore we recommend using a tangle teezer or a natural bristle hair brush that does not have stiff bristles. We have a selection of brushes we recommend to use with extensions, which can be purchased at Escape Hairdressing.

Blow drying and styling after washing

•  When the tape attachments are wet they are more susceptible to sliding out while brushing the hair. Therefore be extra careful and use a moisturising product like a serum, leave-in cream or hair oil in the ends.

•  Never go to bed with wet hair as this will add extra wear on the hair extensions and the tape attachments.

• Blow dry the hair standing and direct the hairdryer in a downwards direction, never upwards. It is important for the cuticles of the hair in the extensions lay in a downwards direction so that they maintain their quality as long as possible.

• In order to blend your own hair better with the extensions, especially if there is a big difference in length, one can use hair straighteners or hair curlers. Remember that the hair has to be 100% dry before using hot styling tools and be careful not to use temperatures over 185 °C. At this temperature that cortex (the inner part of the hair) will hold onto moisture and the hair cuticles will close for a more shiny result. At lower temperatures than 185 °C will the hair strands dry out, where as with higher temperatures there is a risk of burning the hair.

Day-to-Day Care and tips

• If this is your first time having hair extensions, you have to expect to have an adjustment and create a new routine for your hair. It is totally normal for one or two attachments to fall out until one is used to the their new hair routine. A tape extension can fall out because of brushing too hard for example, or having hair up too tightly in a ponytail. If the tape attachment is forced in the opposite direction it will damage the hair at the roots and become too tight.

• At night time, it is recommended to sleep with your hair in either plaits facing forward or to set your hair up in a high topknot (so that all the tape attachments are flipped upside down) with a loose hair tye, like a silk scrunchie. Sleeping with you hair just left down, resting on the pillow or stuck underneath you, can cause friction in the attachments that can reduce their longevity. The additional added bonus of putting up your hair at night is that you avoid unnecessary knots and tangles.

• When it comes to hairstyles and wanting to wear a ponytail we recommend either a low ponytail so that all the tape attachments lay in the direction of hair fall or a high ponytail so that the attachments lay the opposite way. We therefore do not recommend a ponytail on the middle of the head, as this causes the extensions to be pulled sideways and also put a lot of strain on you own hair to hold the tape in this manner. Repeated use of hairstyles that cause strain on the extension attachments and your own hair can cause infections in your hair follicles, where hair loss can happen.

• It is recommended not to swim in chlorinated water when wearing Marvelous Hair Extensions as it can dry out the hair extensions and make them change colour, which can also happen to your own hair. We therefore recommend wearing a swimming cap whilst swimming and then taking the cap off under running water so that there is not any unnecessary wear and tear in areas where the hair is fine and thin. When swimming in salt water, it is recommended to rinse the hair out with water right after swimming and to do a hair mask sometime the same day.

• We remind you that Marvelous Hair Extensions is made from real human hair that has grown for a long time to reach a long length. Considering the hair is no longer attached by the hair follicle and has been cut, it therefore does not have as long longevity as hair growing from a hair root. Extension hair has a lower tolerance to drastic temperature changes like very hot or cold weather. For this reason the extension hair requires extra care, where we recommend using a hair oil or a leave-in conditioner that protects the hair. It is also a good idea to use a heat-protecting product before using any hot styling tools, which will benefit both your own hair and the extensions.

By following all the recommended advice above there will be less chance of experiencing any damage to your own hair and will result in a more satisfactory experience with your hair extensions over a long period of time.
